Maruti Suzuki’s consolidated net profit in the January-March quarter rose 47.8 percent to Rs 3,877.8 crore on a year-year basis. It was Rs 2,623.6 crore in the same period last year. Its sales increased by 13.4 percent in the fourth quarter. Japan’s Suzuki Motor Corporation holds a 58.19 percent stake in the company. Maruti Suzuki’s net profit increased by about 64 percent to Rs 13,209.4 crore in the last financial year. Its sales have increased by about 20 percent.
Maruti Suzuki’s total manufacturing has crossed three crore units. The company started manufacturing in the country in December 1983. It has manufacturing plants in Gurugram and Manesar in Haryana and Hansalpur in Gujarat. The company manufactured 1 million units in 1994. After this, in April 2005 it reached manufacturing of one crore units. Maruti Suzuki has done manufacturing of more than 2.68 million units in Haryana plants and more than 32 lakh units in Gujarat. Maruti 800 has been a major contributor to reaching the company to this achievement. More than 29 lakh units are sold. Maruti Suzuki started exports in 1987.
Maruti Suzuki’s sales in the last financial year have been more than 2 million units. This is its most sales. Other successful models of the company include Alto 800, Alto K10, Swift, Wagon R, Dzire, Omni, Baleno, EECO, Brezza and Ertiga. Maruti Suzuki is set to launch updated versions of SWIFT and Dzire. The company is getting strong demand in the SUV and MPV segment. Brezza, Fronx and Grand Vitara are the best selling models for this. Its plan is to increase the manufacturing capacity to 40 lakh units in the next few years. For this, two greenfield manufacturing plants are being set up in Haryana and Gujarat.
