The Supreme Court refused to hear the petition against the Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim repeatedly on Parol or Furls on behalf of the Haryana government. The court said that the relief given to a particular person in the name of PIL can not be challenged. If a rule or High Court order is being violated, it can be challenged in the High Court.
This petition was filed by the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee. It was opposed to Ram Rahim coming out of jail several times since 2022. Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, appearing on behalf of the disputed Dharma Guru, said that this petition has been filed due to political rivalry. The petitioner’s counsel argued that when Ram Rahim calls himself a religious person, then where did the matter of political rivalry come from? On this, Rohatgi said that the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee also calls itself a religious institution. What does such a petition mean by him?
Justice Bhushan Ramakrishna Gavai and Justice Manoj Mishra of the Supreme Court also took a note that the High Court had said in a case that the government can consider according to the rules on the demand of Ram Rahim’s parole. The petitioner’s counsel said that Ram Rahim’s release last year was a violation of this order of the High Court. On this, the judges said that if this is the case, a contempt petition can be filed against the state government in the High Court. PIL cannot be allowed by making a particular person a target.
Keep in mind that Ram Rahim has been punished for heinous crimes like murder and rape. In 2017, she was sentenced to 20 years for rape from 2 female disciples. Ram Rahim and 3 people were also convicted in 2019 for the killing of journalist Ramchandra Chhatrapati in 2002. In this case, he has been sentenced to life imprisonment, but the Haryana government has been giving him a chance to come out of jail again and again.
