The Maharashtra government has issued a mandate (GR) regarding the use of Marathi language in government offices. According to this order, all government offices, semi-government offices, companies coming under the Government of Maharashtra and employees working in other government offices will have to talk to all visitors coming in their weeks in Marathi language. However, this rule will not apply to visitors coming from abroad or from other non-Marathi states. At the same time, all the offices and banks of the central government will have to install sign boards in Marathi language itself.

It further states that if a government official violates this rule, a formal complaint can be lodged with the concerned office or in -charge of the department, so that necessary action can be taken. Considering this violation as government indiscipline, if the complainant does not get satisfaction from the action taken against the officer, then the complainant can appeal to the Marathi Language Committee of Maharashtra Legislature.

Advertisement and tender notice will be issued in Marathi itself

Advertisements, tender notices will be given in Marathi newspapers on behalf of Maharashtra government companies, boards, corporations, semi-government organizations, local bodies etc. The district level Marathi language committee will be responsible for implementing Marathi language policy at the district level. According to the Trishag formula of the Central Government, it will be mandatory for all the offices of the central government and all the banks in the state to have notice boards, the names of the officers and the application in Marathi language. Only Marathi names will be used in the operation of government and semi-government establishments as well as government undertakings and companies including the board and corporation. The new name will be in Marathi which will not be translated into English, rather it will be scripted in the Roman script itself.
