Ola and uber gets notice from ccpa over pricing disparity on Apple, Android Phones

Through the app, there has been a difficulty with the alleged pricing of the companies offering cab service companies Ola and Uber on Android and Apple smartphones. The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has sent notices to these two companies. India is one of the big markets for Uber.

Consumer Affairs Minister, Pralhad Joshi said in a post on social media platforms X that Ola and Uber have been given notice by CCPA. He said that he would also instruct CCPA to check the strategy of separate pricing in other segments like food delivery and online ticketing portals. Many users on social media had complained that these companies offering cab services collect more prices from iPhone users than smartphones running on Android operating systems.

Recently Joshi said that this business method is a major violation of consumer rights. In October last year, CCPA gave a show cause notice to Ola Electric involved in large electric two-wheeler companies, alleged violations of consumers’ rights, misleading advertisements and inappropriate business methods. After this, this company was asked to provide additional documents regarding the notice. Earlier this month, CCPA has again sought information from the company about this.

The Karnataka High Court had given a six -week deadline to the company to answer the previous letter of CCPA. The CCPA had initially investigated a large number of complaints against Ola Electric. In this, violations of customers’ rights, misleading advertisements and deficiencies in service were found. After this, the Director General of Investigation of CCPA was directed to investigate the matter. Ola Electric had argued that the officers who issued the notice are not authorized under the Consumer Protection Act. The company had said that the officer who issued the notice has not been given the post of Director or Additional Director. On this, the High Court had clarified that the Director General of CCPA has authorized an officer with the post of Senior Director to investigate.
