BBL Qualifier Match Halted Due to Lightning: Big Bash League is one of the most exciting and famous T20 leagues in the world. On Wednesday, 22 January, a match was played between Sydney Thunder and Melbourne Stars, in which the match was stopped due to a reason which could have resulted in loss of life. Many unusual incidents have happened so far in BBL 2025. As far as Sydney Thunder vs Melbourne Stars match is concerned, the match was interrupted not due to any rain or storm but due to lightning.
Shadow of death in the cricket field
In this match played on Wednesday, Sydney Thunder came to bat first. Only 3.3 overs were bowled in the innings when the match was stopped due to lightning. There was no lightning on the field, but there was news of lightning about 8 kilometers away from the field. It was told that as per the rules in Australia, whenever lightning falls, no game is allowed to be played within a radius of 10 kilometers. In fact, if we look at the statistics, every year 5-10 people die due to lightning in Australia. There are also reports of people getting injured.
The game stopped for about 15 minutes
This qualifier match was between Sydney Thunder vs Melbourne Stars. The losing team will be out of the tournament. Well, due to fear of lightning, the players were sent out of the field at 7:25 pm Australian time. When the conditions improved, play started again after about 15 minutes, but due to wastage of time, the number of overs in each innings was reduced from 20 to 19.
