World’s fastest AI chip
Chinese scientists have created the world’s fastest chip, which can train AI models with very low power consumption. Chinese scientists claim that this chip works by taking energy from light, the electricity consumption in it is negligible. It has been named LightGen AI chip, which will be used for some special purposes. Chinese scientists claim that this chip can save up to 100 times the power of GPUs from big companies like NVIDIA.

Chips that train AI models, i.e. GPUs, are used to make video games and work on big data. These chips consume huge amounts of power and heat up quickly. A lot of money has to be spent to make it. The LightGen chip made by China works on photons i.e. light instead of electricity. In this, energy is transferred by the collision of light. However, this chip is not used for multitasking.
A team of students from China’s Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Tsinghua University have jointly created this AI chip. This chip is completely based on light and has more than 2 million photonic neurons, which will be used for work related to image generation, style transfer and 3D images. Chinese researchers claim that it is 10 times faster than NVIDIA’s GPU and works at very low power consumption.
