An earthquake of 6.1 magnitude occurred in the south-eastern region of Taiwan at around 5:47 pm on Wednesday. There has been no report of any damage. Its tremors were felt in China, Philippines and Japan.
According to the Central Meteorological Administration (CWA), the epicenter of the earthquake was 10.1 kilometers north of Taitung County Hall and its depth was 11.9 kilometers.
The intensity of earthquakes in Taiwan is measured on a scale of 1 to 7. Intensity level 5 was recorded in Taitung County, while level 4 was felt in Hualien and Pingtung counties.
There was chaos in a building in Taipei after the earthquake.
At present there is no information about damage due to earthquake
The National Fire Agency said that at present there has been no news of any damage in Taiwan.
Taiwanese chip maker TSMC said the earthquake was not of such intensity that it would require the evacuation of its factories across the island.

A year ago there was an earthquake of 7.2 magnitude
A magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck the Hualien region of Taiwan on April 3, 2024. This was the most powerful earthquake in the last 25 years.
It was the largest since the Chi-Chi (Jiji) earthquake of September 21, 1999. The magnitude of that 1999 earthquake was 7.7, which killed more than 2400 people and caused massive devastation.
This earthquake of 2024 killed 19 people, injured more than 1100, caused many buildings to tilt or collapse, and caused landslides in mountainous areas.
In 2016, more than 100 people were killed in the earthquake in southern Taiwan.
Taiwan built on two tectonic plates
Taiwan is built at the junction of two tectonic plates, so there is a risk of earthquake here.
According to the Central Weather Administration, alerts were issued in many areas including Taipei, Kaohsiung, Taichung and Tainan.
The earthquake in Hualien and Pingtung counties measured four on Taiwan’s seven-point scale.
