Ranveer Singh’s film ‘Dhurandhar’ is being discussed more in Pakistan than in India. The film depicts the Lyari area of Karachi, Pakistan and the gang war that took place there from 1999-2009.
Due to the depiction of Lyari and the gang war there, neighboring country Pakistan has termed Dhurandhar as propaganda. Also, he has announced a film named ‘Mera Lyari’.
According to media reports, there is so much resentment among Sindh officials over the showing of Lyari in Dhurandhar that the Sindh Information Department has announced its own film ‘Mera Lyari’. He claims that the real story of the area will be shown through this film.
While sharing two posters of Mera Lyari from the official handle of Sindh Information Department, it was written – ‘Truth cannot be erased by misrepresentation. Lyari is a symbol of culture, peace and perseverance, not violence.
While the bigots are spreading false propaganda, Mera Lyari will soon tell the true story of glory and prosperity. The film will be released in January 2026. India’s propaganda against Lyari will never succeed.
Talking about the film Dhurandhar, actors like Ranveer Singh, Akshay Khanna, Arjun Rampal, Danish Pandor, Rakesh Bedi, Gaurav Gera have worked in Aditya Dhar’s film Dhurandhar.
In this film, Ranveer Singh has played the role of an Indian undercover agent. Whereas, Akshay Khanna has played the role of Lyari’s gangster Rehman Dacoit and Danish has played the role of Uzair Baloch.
Lyari is also called ‘Mother of Karachi’
Talking about the historicity of Lyari, it is considered to be one of the oldest inhabited areas of Karachi and the people here also call it ‘Mother of Karachi’.
This area was originally settled by Sindhi fishermen and Baloch nomads. It is said that this name is derived from the Sindhi word ‘Lyar’. Lyar was a tree that once grew on the banks of the Lyari River.
