The Ministry of External Affairs on Wednesday summoned Bangladesh’s High Commissioner to India Riyaz Hamidullah. Convinced him of India’s deep concerns over the deteriorating security environment in Bangladesh. He particularly called the attention of the Bangladesh High Commissioner to the activities of some extremist elements who have announced plans to create a security crisis around the Indian Embassy in Dhaka, according to a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs.
India’s friendly relations with Bangladesh – Ministry of External Affairs
The Ministry of External Affairs said, “India completely rejects the false narrative being spread by extremist elements in relation to certain recent incidents in Bangladesh. It is unfortunate that the interim government has neither conducted a thorough investigation nor shared any meaningful evidence with India in relation to these incidents.” He further said that India has close and friendly relations with the people of Bangladesh. We stand for peace and stability in Bangladesh and have consistently stressed the need to hold free, fair, inclusive and credible elections in a peaceful environment. The Ministry of External Affairs further said that it expects the interim government to ensure the security of missions and embassies in Bangladesh in line with its diplomatic obligations.

NCP leader Hasnat Abdullah had given anti-India statement
The summons has been issued in the wake of incidents like anti-India rhetoric by National Citizen Party (NCP) leader Hasnat Abdullah. Abdullah had threatened in a public speech that if Bangladesh became unstable he would isolate the Seven Sisters and provide sanctuary to separatists from the North-East. Abdullah is known for his strong anti-India stance.

Victory Day was celebrated in Bangladesh Embassy
Earlier, Bangladesh’s Victory Day was celebrated with a cultural program at the Bangladesh Embassy in Delhi, India. High Commissioner M Riaz Hamidullah stressed Bangladesh’s commitment to fulfilling the aspirations of its people, especially the younger generation, and highlighted the country’s young population. Hamidullah stressed that Bangladesh and India have mutually beneficial relations centered on prosperity, peace and regional security. Referring to the interdependence of the two countries, he underlined the importance of their partnership.
“The whole of Bangladesh and all of us are committed to fulfilling the aspirations of our people, especially the young generation. We have a very high youth population. We believe that our relations with India are in our common interest. We are interdependent. We are completely focused on prosperity, peace and security in the region,” he said.
The event showcased the culture and heritage of Bangladesh and celebrated its liberation and independence.
