Kidney disease is becoming quite common in our times. It is also called a silent killer because it gradually gets worse and suddenly it is realized that it is too late. Then once the kidney starts deteriorating, it is considered almost impossible to bring it back to its original state. But recently a new study has revealed that kidney health can also be reversed. This discovery can completely change the treatment of kidney disease.
What came in the research?
Research published in JCI Insight has revealed that scientists have discovered a reason that causes kidney damage and if it is stopped in time, the kidney damage can be reversed.
The study found that fatty molecules called ceramides present in the body damage kidney cells. When researchers stopped the production of these molecules in rats, their kidney health remained perfect even under conditions in which their kidneys could have been damaged.
Kidney cells and their mitochondria remained safe. This means that it may be possible not only to prevent kidney damage but also to reverse it.
Will help in kidney treatment
This discovery can completely change the treatment of kidney diseases in the future. Till now it was believed that once kidney failure starts, it can only be stopped and cannot be completely cured. But this new study shows that if this method works on humans too, then the need for kidney failure, dialysis and transplant can be reduced in the future.
However, currently this research has been done only on rats, so it will take time to implement it on humans. Nevertheless, this is a hopeful discovery, which may change the future of treatment of kidney diseases.
