New Delhi:

Rasha Thadani and Aaman Devgan’s Azaad which opened with a lackluster Rs 1.5 crore in the domestic market, saw its earnings drop by over 10% on Saturday.

Azaadwhich marks the acting debut of Aaman Devgan, the nephew of Ajay Devgn and Rasha Thadani, daughter of Raveena Tandon, recorded an India nett collection of just Rs 1.34 crore on Saturday, according to Sacnilk.

This brings the film’s total nett domestic collection to only Rs 2.84 crore. The film struggled to attract audiences with an overall occupancy rate of just 8.90% in the Hindi market. The morning shows saw a dismal 5.34% occupancy and the numbers barely improved throughout the day, with the afternoon shows at 9.22%, evening shows at 9.30% and night shows at 11.72%.

Abhishek Kapoor, who has previously introduced newcomers such as Sushant Singh Rajput in How to eat and Sara Ali Khan in Kedarnathfaced a tough challenge with Azaad‘s debut. While How to eat and Kedarnath both went on to become hits, Azaad seems struggling to find its footing.

In comparison, How to eatreleased in 2013, made Rs 4.5 crore on its opening day and went on to earn around Rs 50 crore during its domestic run. Similarly, Kedarnathreleased five years later, made Rs 6.8 crore on opening day and eventually grossed Rs 66 crore domestically.

Abhishek Kapoor’s last directorial, Chandigarh Kare Aashiquistarring Ayushmann Khurrana, also underperformed, minting Rs 28 crore after a Rs 3.5 crore opening. With Azaad’s A disappointing debut, the film has become his lowest-ever opening.

The film clashed with Kangana Ranaut’s long-delayed political drama. emergencywhich fared only slightly better, earning Rs 2.5 crore on its opening day.
