The negligence of the health system in the largest government hospital of West Champaran has once again been exposed. On Thursday, a video went viral on social media, in which a woman is seen holding a newborn baby in her lap inside the ward, while a young man walking with her is giving oxygen to the baby with an oxygen cylinder in his hand. This scene exposes the administrative disorganization, lack of resources and serious negligence of the district hospital.
According to government claims, warmer beds, stretchers, safe transport system and modern equipment should be available in the hospital, but the video completely refutes these claims. The child admitted in the sensitive newborn ward did not get a stretcher, nor a warmer bed, nor a safe trolley. The family members themselves were forced to carry the newborn to another ward, holding it in their hands.

According to sources, the newborn belongs to a family from Jyogia Tola in West Champaran. After the video went viral, family members and local people expressed their displeasure against the hospital administration. He says that such incidents keep happening in the hospital every day. There was an uproar over the death of a woman after delivery two days ago, but despite complaints, the administration does not take any action. It is alleged that the family members are mistreated when they ask questions and journalists are prevented from going inside. The youth who made the video were also allegedly misbehaved.
Local residents say that instead of improving the system, the hospital administration tries to suppress the cases every time. Such videos which are continuously going viral are raising serious questions on the working style of the health department. People have demanded from the District Health Department that the facilities of newborn and maternity wards should be immediately restored and strict action should be taken against the negligent personnel. Also, basic facilities like stretchers, warmer beds and transport systems should be made available immediately in the hospital.
