The State Duma, the lower house of the Russian Parliament, on Tuesday approved ‘RELOS’, a military agreement between India and Russia. Under this, the armies of both the countries will be able to use and exchange each other’s military bases, facilities and resources.

Their aircraft, warships will be able to refuel, camp at military bases or use other logistics facilities. The expenditure on this will be borne equally. This approval has been given two days before President Putin’s visit to India.

This agreement was signed between India and Russia on 18 February this year. Last week, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin sent it to Parliament for approval.

This photo taken on February 18 is of Indian Ambassador Vinay Kumar and the then Russian Deputy Defense Minister Alexander Fomin, when the RELOS agreement was signed.

Russia and India will be able to help each other easily

The Speaker of the Russian Parliament said that relations between India and Russia are very strong and this agreement will further improve those relations. The Russian government also said that this agreement will strengthen the military partnership between the two countries and it will become easier to help each other in times of need.

After this agreement, India will become the first country to have an agreement to share military infrastructure with America and Russia. Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh Tripathi confirmed this on Bhaskar’s question on Tuesday.

He told that this agreement with Russia is in the final stages. This will not lead to any military conflict between America and Russia.

No permission to use military base during war

Under this agreement, military bases will not be allowed to be used during war or any military conflict. This is only for logistics support and peace-time military cooperation.

Logistic support means that countries provide help like fuel, goods, repairs to each other’s armies when needed. At the same time, peace-time military cooperation means that in peacetime, the armies of the countries train and cooperate together.

Why is the RELOS agreement special?

Reciprocal Exchange of Logistic Support (RELOS) is considered to be one of the most important defense agreements ever in the strategic partnership of the two countries. This is a defense logistics exchange agreement.

Under this, the armies of India and Russia will be able to use each other’s military bases, ports, airfields and supply points.

This use will be only for purposes like refueling, repair, stock refill, medical support, transit and movement.

India has signed similar agreements with America (LEMOA), France, Australia, Singapore, South Korea and many other countries. Now Russia is also joining it.

S-400 Triumph is Russia’s advanced missile system, which was launched in 2007. This system can destroy fighter jets, ballistic and cruise missiles, drones and even stealth aircraft.

It acts like a strong shield to protect against various threats in the air. It is counted among the most modern air defense systems of the world.

British-French and German ambassadors wrote article against Putin

A big controversy has started just before the visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to India. The ambassadors of Britain, France and Germany wrote an article in an Indian newspaper accusing Russia of attacking Ukraine too harshly and not taking peace efforts seriously.

This article also said that Russia is trying to spread instability in the world through cyber attacks and misinformation.

Officials of India’s Foreign Ministry have expressed displeasure over this article. He says that giving advice to India on a public platform like this about a third country is not the right diplomatic way. Such steps cannot be accepted.

Former Foreign Secretary Kanwal Sibal has also criticized this article. He said that this article amounts to interference in the internal affairs of India and its purpose could be to create an atmosphere against Russia in India.
