DoT has responded to the question raised regarding the user data store of Sanchar Sathi app. The government had recently decided to make Sanchar Sathi app mandatory for every smartphone. However, later the government clarified that providing this app in the phone is optional i.e. OEMs can provide this app in their phones if they want.

Questions raised on the app

Experts had raised questions on the necessity of the app by the Department of Telecommunications. Experts said that what will this app be useful for? Where will the app data be stored? Will users be able to remove it? Experts had expressed concern about user data storage. The industry believed that this order of the Department of Telecommunications is regulator overreach, which means that the Department of Telecommunications is trying to control more than necessary.

DoT said a big thing

DoT has given its response on this question. The Department of Telecommunications has made it clear through its X handle that by using Sanchar Saathi, your phone will be safe and your data will remain yours. Communication Partner does not track or collect user data. This app is only used to block fraudsters, block fake SIM cards and prevent mobile theft because the app always thinks about the privacy of the user.

The Department of Telecommunications has told about the correct use of Sanchar Sathi app and the help it provides to the users. Let us tell you that the government had launched this app in the beginning of the year. Through this app, users can report any fake communication such as calls and messages coming on their phones. Apart from this, users can find out through this app how many SIM cards have been issued in their name and can be used to identify fake phones. If users wish, they can also avail these facilities through Sanchar Saathi website instead of the app.
