A tragic accident took place in Pune’s Pimpri-Chinchwad area late on Monday night, when a speeding bus suddenly climbed onto the footpath and crushed six people walking there. Two people died on the spot in the accident, while four are injured. The condition of one of them is said to be serious. There was panic in the area after the incident. Heavy police deployment has been made and the bus driver has been taken into custody.
Driver in custody, search for bus owner
The police took immediate action and caught the accused bus driver. Initial investigation has indicated that he was under the influence of alcohol. At present the police is conducting medical tests and collecting information about the bus owner. There is anger among the local people after the accident, due to which Pimpri-Chinchwad Police has deployed additional forces.
The driver was drunk, preliminary investigation indicated – ACP Wakad Division
According to ACP (Wakad Division) Sunil Kurade, the accident occurred while moving from Shivaji Chowk towards Wakad Bridge. He said the bus suddenly climbed onto the footpath and hit six pedestrians. Two people have died, while one person is seriously injured. The driver has been taken into custody. According to preliminary investigation, he is suspected to be drunk. Efforts are on to identify the bus owner.
