Shivkumar said – This is a matter between me and the CM

Speaking to the media on Monday, CM Siddaramaiah said, ‘On Saturday, Shivkumar had asked him to come home for breakfast on Tuesday. I have not received a formal invitation yet, but if they call I will definitely go. I think they’ll invite me.’ On the CM’s statement, Deputy CM DK Shivkumar said on Monday, ‘This is a matter between me and the Chief Minister and we both are working together like brothers. We met on November 29 due to media pressure, but there was no need for that. You are claiming factionalism, but there is no factionalism. You are the one forming the group.

Why did the discussion of change of leadership start?

Only after the results of the 2023 assembly elections, the tug of war for the post of CM started between Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar. Both were expressing their claim for the post of CM. The matter escalated so much that the party high command called both the leaders to Delhi. After the agreement in Delhi, it was decided that Siddaramaiah will take charge of the Karnataka government and Shivakumar will take over as Deputy CM. However, media reports claimed that there was an agreement between Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar to hold the post of CM for two and a half years. However, both the leaders and the party never officially accepted this rotation formula. However, the Congress government of Karnataka appeared divided into two camps. Many MLAs and ministers supported Siddaramaiah while many raised their voice in support of Shivakumar. Now when Siddaramaiah has completed two and a half years tenure as CM in November, the discussion of change of leadership once again gained momentum.
