Cyber ​​Security: The Telecom Ministry of the Government of India has ordered all smartphone manufacturing companies to sell the Sanchar Sathi app of the Government of India preloaded in all their new phones. This step has been taken with the aim of dealing with the increasing cyber threats and reducing the cases of mobile phone theft. ET Telecom has quoted Reuters as saying that on November 28, the central government has directed all mobile companies to install the Government of India’s cyber security-related app Sanchar Sathi on all phones within 90 days. Apart from this, also ensure that users cannot delete or uninstall this app on their own. Also, to launch this app in the phones which are already in the supply chain, the mobile phone manufacturing companies will have to resort to software updates.

Know the government’s Sanchar Sathi app

In fact, in recent times, there has been a huge increase in cases of mobile phone cyber fraud and the government’s Sanchar Sathi app is one such app which is proving to be very effective in helping customers report suspicious IMEI numbers, report fraudulent calls and provide information about stolen phones. This app was launched in January and has received 50 lakh downloads so far. Through this, so far 37 lakh stolen or lost mobile phones have been blocked and around 30 lakh fake connections have been stopped. There are a total of 120 crore mobile phone customers in India and through this Sanchar Sathi app, which was launched in January, about 7 lakh lost mobile phones have been recovered so far, out of which 50 thousand were recovered in October only.

Apple did not like the government’s order

It has also been reported that the world’s number one smartphone manufacturer Apple has not liked this instruction of the Indian Government because this company works on its own strong security system and does not sell pre-loaded apps by installing them in its iPhones. Now that this instruction has come, companies like Samsung, Vivo, Oppo, Xiaomi have also come under the purview of this order. It remains to be seen how this new order is implemented on these companies including Apple.

What is the purpose of the government?

The aim of the government is to make it easier to report fake connections, theft or loss of phone through Sanchar Sathi app. These apps are very useful for the government in the direction of cyber security, as we have already told you. This app is also very useful for reporting suspicious IMEI and also helps the police.
