Khyber Pakhtunkhwa CM Sohail Afridi was beaten on the road by the police on November 27.
The Pakistan government is considering imposing President’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). Pakistan’s Minister of State for Justice Akil Malik said on Monday, ‘The condition of security and administration in Pakhtunkhwa has become very bad.’
According to Geo News, Malik said, ‘Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi is failing miserably in improving the situation there. He is neither keeping any coordination with the central government nor taking any action at necessary places.
This statement came a few days after Afridi staged an overnight protest outside the Central Jail Rawalpindi (Adiala Jail). Actually, Afridi was protesting demanding permission to meet the former PM lodged in Adiala jail.
President’s rule may be imposed on PM’s advice
According to the Constitution of Pakistan, under Articles 232 and 234 of the Constitution, the President can impose Governor’s Rule on the advice of the Prime Minister. This is for the first two months, later it can be extended if needed. Later, its approval has to be taken from the joint meeting of both the houses of the Parliament.
On the other hand, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi said that he will accept the party’s decision if someone else is brought in his place. However, last week Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had met him and expressed full confidence that he would not be removed.
Afridi was beaten by the police on the orders of the army
Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) state Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, who had reached Rawalpindi’s Adiala jail to support Imran Khan, was beaten by the police by throwing him on the road on November 27.
According to media reports, the attack on CM Sohail Afridi was carried out on the orders of the army. When Afridi reached the jail on Thursday, there was heavy security deployed there and the crowd of PTI supporters was continuously increasing. The situation worsened with his arrival.
The police stopped him and the leaders accompanying him from moving forward. During the scuffle, the policemen also kicked and punched the CM and threw him on the ground. PTI has described this incident as an attack on democratic rights.
CM Sohail Afridi was protesting to allow him to meet former PM Imran Khan.
Afridi had threatened big protests
Afridi says that the government will have to give correct answers to all the questions raised regarding the health and safety of Imran Khan. If this is not done then they will be forced to take to the streets along with the public.
Afridi alleged that the government was not giving correct information about Imran Khan’s condition. He warned that if anything happens to Imran Khan, the responsibility for its consequences will be entirely on the present government.
He took a dig at Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir and said that he is responsible for the deteriorating situation in the country. Afridi says that blocking access to Imran Khan and hiding information about his health is a betrayal of public trust.
Controversy started due to rumor of Imran Khan’s death
This whole controversy flared up further when a few days ago Chief Minister Afridi sat on a dharna throughout the night. The reason was that he was not allowed to meet PTI founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan for the eighth consecutive time.
Many ministers of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and hundreds of PTI workers were also present with him. The protest continued throughout the night and Fajr prayers were offered outside the jail in the morning. The next day, while ending the strike, the CM announced that now he will go to Islamabad High Court.
Rumors of Imran Khan’s death have intensified in the last few days. Imran Khan’s son Qasim Khan and his sisters are continuously demanding permission from the administration to meet them and proof of Imran being alive. At the same time, Imran Khan’s party PTI is continuously protesting.
Such posts are going viral on social media. It was claimed that Imran Khan is no longer alive.
Even after the High Court’s approval, the family is unable to meet Imran.
In March 2025, Islamabad High Court had said that Imran Khan can meet family and lawyers. The jail management did not obey the court’s order. The court gave instructions again in October 2025. Even after this his sisters were not allowed to meet him even once.
On November 26, news came on social media that Imran Khan had been murdered in jail. After this his sisters and supporters reached Adiala jail. Imran Khan’s sisters Noorin Niazi, Alima and Uzma started protesting outside the jail. Workers of Imran’s party PTI started protesting across Pakistan.
Seeing the deteriorating atmosphere, the police imposed curfew outside the jail. On November 27, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, who had reached Adiala jail to support Imran Khan, was beaten by the police.
Its videos have also surfaced. Afridi alleged that the government was not giving correct information about Imran Khan’s condition. If anything happens to Imran Khan, the responsibility for its consequences will be on the government.
