Incognito Mode: Often people assume that their online activity disappears completely as soon as they use the Incognito or Private mode of the browser. But the reality is a little different from this. Incognito mode gives you some degree of privacy but it does not completely erase your digital traces. If you think that every browsing done in this mode disappears forever then now is the time to know the truth.
What does Incognito Mode do?
Incognito mode tells your browser not to save your browsing history, cookies, site data, or information you enter into forms. This means no records are kept on your phone or laptop. But remember this facility is limited to the device only. Your activity can be visible in many places on the Internet.
What does Incognito mode not hide?
Many people do not know that Incognito mode does not make your identity completely invisible. This mode doesn’t save your history, but the following things remain: ISP visible: Your internet service provider (like Jio, Airtel, BSNL) can see your browsing.
Office/School WiFi Admin: If you are connected to an office or school network, the administrator can track the sites you visit.
Websites see your IP: Websites can see your location-based IP address.
Downloaded files reveal everything: Any downloaded file or bookmark remains saved on your device even in incognito mode. Incognito mode only hides the browser’s local history, not your presence on the Internet.
How to delete your entire browsing history in minutes?
If you want to erase all traces of your browsing, don’t rely solely on Incognito mode. This way you can clear all traces.
Clear browser history and cache: Go to Settings and delete Browsing Data, Cache and Cookies.
Flush DNS Cache: Clearing DNS cache in mobile or PC also removes many online traces.
Use a VPN: VPN hides your IP address, so websites and ISPs cannot see your real location.
Secret Mode + VPN = More Security: Using both together increases your privacy manifold.
