BCCI secretary breaks silence on pressuring Virat Kohli for Test comeback

A loud rumor has been making rounds on social media involving the BCCI approaching the former Test great Virat Kohli to reverse his decision and make a return to the longest format of the game. The BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia has finally dropped an official remark on the same.

India have failed to look very promising in the red-ball format, as they have in the white-ball format. Furthermore, the Indian batting order, despite the large amount of talent, has lacked stability without any senior pros’ presence to guide them through tough and under-pressure situations.

Devajit Saikia rules out rumors of Virat Kohli’s Test return

Ever since India struggled to keep up with consistency in Test cricket and lost the home series to South Africa with a whitewash, Virat Kohli has been missed from the format. Some reports suggested that the BCCI is thinking about bringing back some of the retired players.

However, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia, in an interview with Aaj Tak, confirmed that the BCCI has no intent to make any request to Virat Kohli regarding the reversal of his retirement. He clarified that no discussion has been initiated over this proposal.

“What’s being said about Virat Kohli is just a rumour. There has been no conversation with Kohli about this. Do not give weight to rumours. Nothing of that sort has happened,” Devajit Saikia told AajTak on Sunday, November 30.

Former cricketers had also backed Virat Kohli’s return.

After the rumors and speculations went loud on social media, several former cricketers, like one of Kohli’s former U-19 teammates and even England’s former batsman Kevin Pietersen, had opined that if the veteran is willing to be back, then he should be brought back into the fold.

“I don’t always believe what I read in the media or on social media. But, if it’s half true that both Virat and Rohit are considering playing Test cricket again, then it needs to be taken very, very seriously. The survival of Test cricket is a hot topic of conversation, and if the biggest stars in the game want to play it again, they must play!” Kevin Pietersen wrote on

Virat gets to his 52nd ODI hundred for India

Following the Test retirement, Virat Kohli is now only a one-format cricketer for India. When a great player like him plays only one format, the determination to prove yourself in every game just gets higher.

Virat did not have a particularly stunning ODI series in Australia, as he struggled with consecutive ducks on his return but by the end of the series, he convinced all of his return with a stupendous match-winning half-century.

Coming back to India, Kohli looked in a different mood from ball one at Ranchi. He came out with a motive and probably fulfilled it before he was dismissed. A 52nd one-day hundred for the Indian legend as he ranks himself higher in the game of cricket.
