GRAP-III implemented in Delhi, complete ban on entry of these diesel-petrol vehicles

The pollution level in Delhi and NCR has once again reached a dangerous level. While the AQI of the capital was 362 on Monday, it increased to 425 on Tuesday morning. This level falls in the ‘Severe’ category, in which it becomes difficult for people to even breathe normally. In view of this worsening situation, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) immediately implemented the third phase of GRAP i.e. Stage III in the entire NCR.

  • Actually, GRAP is a special kind of scheme which is implemented in Delhi when the air becomes very bad. It is implemented in different phases. Stage III is one of the strictest stages. In this phase, strict rules are imposed on vehicles, construction work and factories, so that dangerous dust particles like PM2.5 and PM10 present in the air can be reduced and people can get clean air.

When is GRAP-III applicable?

  • When Delhi’s AQI reaches between 401 to 450, then GRAP-III is implemented. This is the time when the air becomes extremely poisonous and it becomes dangerous for children, elderly people and respiratory patients to go out. As soon as this phase is implemented, there is a ban on construction activities, strict control on local transport and entry of many categories of vehicles is stopped.

Which diesel and petrol vehicles are completely banned in Delhi?

  • As soon as GRAP-III is implemented, BS-IV diesel LMV i.e. small passenger vehicles and cars have been completely banned in Delhi. Apart from these, BS-III petrol vehicles will also not be allowed to enter the capital. BS-IV diesel LCVs registered outside Delhi and BS-IV diesel MGV vehicles carrying non-essential goods have also been stopped immediately. Also, all BS-III and older commercial trucks and goods vehicles will not be allowed to enter Delhi and are being diverted from the border.

Which vehicles will get exemption?

  • Let us tell you that some vehicles have been given relief in GRAP-III. Electric and CNG vehicles, BS-VI diesel buses and Delhi-registered BS-IV LCV-MGVs carrying essential goods will be allowed entry. Apart from this, ambulances, government vehicles, police vehicles, sanitation department and special vehicles for disabled people will also be able to run without any restriction.
