Ravichandran Ashwin holds the record for taking most wickets in a single Test series between India and South Africa. Ashwin is the only bowler who has taken 30 or more wickets in a single Test series against this team.
This feat was done by former Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin in the year 2015. The South African team played a series of 4 test matches on the tour of India, in which Ashwin bowled 164.4 overs and took 31 wickets at an average of 11.12. During this period, Ashwin took five or more wickets in an innings four times. During this period he gave a total of 345 runs.
The first match of the series was played in Mohali. In the first innings of South Africa, Ashwin bowled 24 overs, taking 5 wickets for 51 runs. In the next innings he took 3 wickets for 39 runs in 14 overs. India won the match by 108 runs.
The second match was held in Bengaluru. The South African team was all out for 214 runs in the first innings. In this innings, Ashwin bowled 18 overs, in which he took 4 wickets for 70 runs. Only 22 overs could be played in the Indian innings and the match was drawn due to rain.
The third match of the series was played in Nagpur, in which India won by 124 runs and took a 2-0 lead in the series.
South Africa’s first innings was reduced to just 79 runs. A total of 33.1 overs were bowled in this innings, of which Ashwin bowled 16.1 overs. During this, he took 5 wickets for just 32 runs. In the second innings of South Africa, Ashwin bowled 29.5 overs, taking 7 wickets for 66 runs.
The fourth and final match of the series was played in Delhi. Bowling 13.3 overs in South Africa’s first innings, Ashwin took 2 wickets for 26 runs. In the second innings, he bowled 49.1 overs, taking 5 wickets for 61 runs. Team India won the match by 337 runs and won the series 3-0.
