Facebook has said that it will remove its like and comment buttons from external websites from February 10, 2026. The company said that this decision is being taken to make the developer tools easier and modern. These plugins were introduced about a decade ago, when one after another external websites started integrating Facebook posts to increase engagement. Now with changing times the use of these plugins has reduced.
Website code will not be affected
After the new changes are implemented during Meta’s developer update in February, the like and comment buttons will stop appearing, but this will not cause any kind of error or disruption. Developers do not need to take any immediate action, but they can remove old plugin code for a better user experience. With this decision, an era of Facebook on the internet will end. The Like button was introduced for the first time on Facebook in 2009 and later it created its own identity. For years, everyone from news websites to brands have gauged their popularity through the like button. If seen this way, it has proved to be the most popular button of Facebook.
