There is news of the demise of actor Dharmendra (89). Defense Minister Rajnath Singh first expressed grief over his demise, then deleted his post on X. He was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital on Monday (November 10) due to difficulty in breathing.
Dharmendra’s daughter Esha Deol has completely rejected the news of the actor’s demise in a statement released on social media. they wrote-
“The media is completely spreading false news. Papa’s condition is stable and he is recovering. We request everyone to respect our family’s privacy. Thank you for praying for Papa’s speedy recovery.”
The 89-year-old actor was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital on Monday due to breathing problem, where he was put on ventilator as his condition was not stable. 72 hours are critical for them.
According to a source close to the Deol family, Dharmendra’s daughters have already been called to Mumbai from abroad. Last night, Sunny Deol was seen very emotional outside the hospital, while Bobby Deol also left the shooting of Alpha and returned to Mumbai to meet his father. Many Bollywood celebs including Shahrukh, Salman reached Breach Candy Hospital late on Monday night.

Before November 10, Dharmendra was also admitted to the hospital on October 31. Reporter Vicky Lalwani had posted that Dharmendra was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital due to difficulty in breathing. He was kept in ICU. He was discharged within a few hours after all his body parameters were fine.
Let us tell you that Dharmendra had undergone cornea transplant surgery in the beginning of this year. The transparent layer of his left eye i.e. the cornea was damaged, after which he had a cornea transplant (keratoplasty).
Dharmendra had complained of back pain, muscle strain and weakness several times between 2015-2020. He had to be admitted to the hospital due to back pain and fatigue.

In village Sahnewal of Punjab in British India, there used to be only one headmaster, Kishan Deol. It was 8 December 1935 when Kewal Kishan’s wife Satwant Kaur gave birth to a son. That child was named Dharmendra Kewal Kishan. Dharmendra’s childhood was spent in Sahnewal in a Punjabi Jat family. His father was the headmaster of the Government Senior Secondary School, where the bubbly Dharmendra was admitted. Dharmendra, who was scolded for mischief since childhood, used to be very handsome, of which he himself was aware. He was only 19 years old when his father got him married to Prakash Kaur in 1954.
This was the same year when Dharmendra’s life was about to get a new direction. One day, while reading the newspaper, Dharmendra’s eyes fell on an advertisement in a corner. It was written in it that Filmfare magazine is organizing a talent hunt competition in Mumbai, in which the winner will be given work in films. He was newly married, so it was difficult for him to leave his wife and go to Mumbai, but he convinced his family.
Further, Dharmendra made his mark in the film industry with films like Shola Aur Shabnam, Anpadh, Bandini, Aayi Milan Ki Raat and Haqeeqat.

Dharam ji had told me that he had seen an English type lunch box for the first time.
There was a tough competition between Dev Saheb and Dharmendra during the shooting.

Dev Anand and Dharam ji had a very mysterious relationship, but there was also competition during the shooting. At that time Dharam ji had become a big star. How can a director who cannot tell a story properly make a film?
Before ‘Return of Jewelthief’, I had started ‘Mera Iman’ with Dharam ji. His opposite in this film was Smita Patil. After making 10 reels, the film could not be made because Smita had passed away.
Before signing Dharam ji in this film, I had read an interview of him in a magazine, in which he had said that how can a director who cannot tell the story properly be able to make a film?
After reading that interview, I rehearsed for 10 days. Memorized the story completely. When I told the story to Dharam ji, he patted me on the back and blessed me. Today I can say with great confidence that I can narrate the story of the film to any big actor.
A rural man is still alive inside him
Even after achieving such great success, a villager from the village is still alive inside Dharam ji. That is why he enjoys living in Lonavala Farm House more. Even today he is a down to earth star, I have seen such quality in very few people. He always takes care of those with whom he has good relations.
Used to sleep on the bench after eating gram, never got that chance
Dharmendra struggled hard to enter films. According to reports, Dharmendra did not learn acting from anywhere. Dharmendra won the talent hunt competition organized by Filmfare, leaving behind many talented people. After winning the talent hunt, Dharmendra came to Mumbai, but the path to films was not easy. He used to walk for miles to visit the offices of film producers so that he could save money and eat something from it. Many times he would sleep on the bench after eating gram and sometimes even gram was not available.
Got 51 rupees in first film
Dharmendra was given his first opportunity in films by director Arjun Hingorani in the film ‘Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere’. Dharmendra got Rs 51 for this film released in 1960. Even after this film, Dharmendra took only nominal money in all the films he did with Arjun Hingorani. Dharmendra owed his entire life to the Hingorani family and never demanded money from them.
Wanted to do a romantic film with Sridevi and Madhuri Dixit
Dharmendra worked in 306 films. He played action hero as well as romantic and comedy characters. Dharmendra believed that age is just a number. Producer-director KC Bokadia had said – ‘Our coordination with Dharam ji was so perfect that even if I approached him for shooting two days ago, he never talked about any give-and-take. Have very good relations with him even today. He used to say that in India an actor is considered old at the age of 60. In Hollywood, 60-65 year old actors do love stories.
Dharam ji had told me – I am also going to do a love story film, in which Sridevi and Madhuri Dixit are casting. I will come as a hero in that love story film. I will tell the 25 year old actors who roam around what a love story is? Anyway, I have a lot of experience in love stories. I can’t tell anything right now about why that film could not be made. Dharam ji considers himself young. This is the secret of his good health.
