Whatsapp New Feature: WhatsApp is preparing to bring another big change soon. This time the company is working on a ‘cover photo’ feature like Facebook, which will enable users to make their profile more personal and unique. Whereas till now people used to show themselves only through profile photo, now they will also be able to add cover image according to their mood, personality or style.
WhatsApp’s new cover photo feature
According to reports, this feature is currently in the testing phase in beta version. It can be released publicly in the coming few months. Information website WABetaInfo says that the cover photo option will be available in the profile settings.
This feature will allow placing a wider and larger image above the profile photo, just like it does on Facebook, LinkedIn or X (earlier Twitter). Users will be able to customize this cover photo according to their privacy settings, that is, you will be able to decide whether everyone can see it, only contacts can see it or no one can see it.
Testing phase started for beta users
Currently, this feature is being tested for some selected users in WhatsApp Android beta version. It will be extended to more people in the coming weeks. Actually, this feature is already available for WhatsApp Business profiles but now the company is preparing to make it available for all users.
Another example of Meta’s growing influence
This change in WhatsApp is an indication that Meta (parent company of WhatsApp) is gradually taking all its platforms towards a unified experience. Meta plans to provide the same visual and interface experience to users on Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp.
WhatsApp is also tightening restrictions on AI chatbots
These days, WhatsApp is cautious about the influx of AI assistants and chatbots on its platform. Meta is now blocking companies that were launching their AI bots on WhatsApp. This rule change has dealt a big blow to platforms like ChatGPT and Perplexity because they were reaching out to users through WhatsApp.
