Neo Humanoid Robot: In the world of technology, the race for robots that look and work like humans has intensified. In this series, American-Norwegian company 1X Technologies has introduced NEO which is not just a machine but can become a smart assistant of your home. This humanoid robot helps in household tasks like cleaning, cooking, fetching things and talking to you. Its price has been kept at around $20,000 (about Rs 16 lakh).
Human-like appearance and calm nature
NEO weighs about 30 kg and can lift up to 68 kg. It has been made in such a way that it looks more like a human being than a machine. The robot is dressed in a soft knit suit, which is available in tan, gray and dark brown colors. The company claims that NEO is so quiet that its noise is only 22 decibels i.e. less than a fridge.
Its Tendon Drive system gives it extremely flexible and natural movement. It has 22 degrees of freedom in its hands so that it can do delicate and precise work like a human. With Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and 5G connectivity, it connects easily to smart home systems.
AI brain and conversation abilities
NEO has a large language model (LLM) inbuilt with which it can understand your voice and communicate. It always listens in the background and gets activated when the name is called. NEO also has visual intelligence so that it can recognize the surrounding environment such as things kept in the kitchen or suggest food recipes.
Privacy questions raised by expert mode
Expert Mode in NEO is an interesting but controversial feature. When the robot is faced with a task that it has not learned before, with the user’s permission, a remote expert from 1X Company can control it live so that it can complete the task. This means that an outsider can remotely operate the robot in your home, which may raise concerns about privacy. However, the company claims that this feature has complete security and user control.
Price and availability
NEO can do many household tasks like folding clothes, cleaning, picking up things, switching off lights etc. It also remembers things like your routine, grocery list and birthday and becomes smarter with every update.
The company has started pre-order booking for this, in which it can be booked by paying a refundable deposit of $200 (approximately Rs 16,000). After this, the user can buy it for $20,000 or can opt for the subscription model of $499 per month.
Deliveries of NEO will begin in the US in 2026 and there are plans to launch it in other countries in 2027. Tech experts say that this humanoid can give tough competition to robots like Tesla’s Optimus in the market.
