This site is now available for free to all users and already contains millions of articles. Displeasure with Wikipedia became the reason
Elon Musk has been a longtime critic of Wikipedia. He believes that this platform is under the control of far-left activists. Musk has many times accused Wikipedia of bias on his social media platform X (earlier Twitter). He even said that woke mind virus is being spread on Wikipedia and appealed to people not to donate to this platform anymore.
Amidst all this, Musk realized that people need a platform where information is unbiased and true and from this thought ‘Grokipedia’ was born.
What is Grokipedia and how does it work?
Grokipedia is a website that is completely powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI). Musk claims that this platform is “completely open source”, meaning anyone can use it for free.
When a user searches a topic, the Grok AI chatbot finds that information and analyzes it through xAI’s internal systems. After this, an accurate and fact-based page is prepared on that topic.
Elon Musk said that the goal of Grokipedia is not just to provide information but to “show the truth”. In response to a question asked by a user on the George Floyd page, Musk said that “only the truth” will be shown in Grokipedia.
Not just an alternative to Wikipedia, a bigger vision
For Musk, Grokipedia is not just an alternative to Wikipedia but a part of a bigger idea. “Grokipedia is an important step forward in xAI’s mission to understand the universe,” he said in a post on X.
Currently, more than 8.85 lakh entries have been added to the 0.1x version of Grokipedia. Musk also said that this platform will get better with the upcoming updates.
We won’t be perfect, but we will keep trying
Elon Musk believes that this is the beginning for Grokipedia. He wrote, “We will never be completely perfect but will keep trying to move in that direction.”
If Grokipedia is truly successful in providing fact-checking and accurate information through AI, then it will not only pose a challenge to Wikipedia, but can also give a new direction to the future of AI-based knowledge-sharing.
