vodafone idea
Vodafone Idea has launched CNAP i.e. Calling Name Presentation Service in one telecom circle to curb fake calls. After Vodafone Idea, other telecom companies have also prepared to roll it out in different circles. The Department of Telecommunications has directed all telecom companies to roll out CNAP by March 31, 2026.
What is CNAP?
As is clear from the name, Calling Name Presentation means showing the name of the incoming caller on the phone. The Department of Telecommunications was recommending this for a long time. In this regard, instructions were given to the telecom companies to implement CNAP soon so that fake calls coming from unknown numbers on the phones can be curbed.
In CNAP, the caller’s name appears in incoming calls to the user’s phone. This service will work like Truecaller or other name display apps but in this the name as per the KYC document given while purchasing the SIM will be visible. The actual name of the connection taker is visible in the KYC document. In such a situation, fake caller can be identified easily.
Roll out by 31st March 2026
According to PTI report, the Department of Telecommunications said that Vodafone Idea has launched this service in Haryana Telecom Circle. Jio is also going to launch this service in Haryana soon. Telecom companies have currently decided to roll out CNAP in one circle. After completion of the trial, this service will be rolled out across India. For this, the Department of Telecommunications has set the deadline of 31 March 2026.
TRAI i.e. Telecom Authority had suggested CNAP last year to curb fake calls. After this, the Department of Telecommunications had asked the telecom companies to give their comments regarding this. However, telecom companies said that this could violate the privacy of users. Later, telecom companies have started working on a pilot project to launch this service.
