A Kalaripayattu martial arts instructor and his wife from Bengaluru have been arrested for the murder of a food delivery agent. Police have described it as a deliberate incident of road rage.
Chased by car after minor collision
This incident happened on the night of 25th October in Nataraj Layout, which surprised the entire city. CCTV footage revealed that the couple deliberately hit the victim’s scooter with their car after a minor collision. According to the report, the police have identified the accused as Manoj Kumar (32 years) and his wife Aarti Sharma (30 years). Manoj is from Kerala, while his wife is from Jammu and Kashmir. Both have been married for five years. The accused were arrested after investigators, based on CCTV footage, found that their car followed the victim’s scooter for two kilometers and hit it.

The victim, Darshan (24 years old), was a resident of Kembattalli and was a food delivery agent. He died on the spot after the car hit the scooter from behind. His friend Varun, who was sitting with him on the scooter, was injured. Darshan was unmarried and now has parents and sister at home.
Darshan had apologized after colliding with the rear-view mirror.
According to the police, the incident started around 9 pm, when Darshan’s scooter accidentally collided with the right side rear-view mirror of Manoj Kumar’s car. The report further said that Darshan apologized and proceeded to deliver his order, but an angry Kumar took a U-turn, chased the scooter and within minutes fled from the spot after hitting it from behind.

‘The accused came to pick up the broken glass of the car after the collision’
Local residents helped both the injured and immediately took them to the nearest hospital, where doctors declared Darshan brought dead. Initially his sister lodged a hit-and-run complaint with the JP Nagar traffic police after learning that the incident was deliberate. However, CCTV footage collected from the area changed the direction of the investigation. The case was later handed over to the Puttenahalli police, who registered a case of murder. Another fact investigators later discovered was that the couple had returned to the scene around 9.40pm wearing masks to collect parts of the car broken in the collision. The same CCTV camera captured their faces during this period, due to which the police could identify and arrest them.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Lokesh Jaglasar confirmed the arrest and said that both Manoj and Aarti have confessed to their involvement.
