There is going to be a big change in the ticket booking system in Railways next year. At present, only 25,000 tickets can be booked in a minute, whereas after a few months, up to 1.25 lakh tickets will be booked. This new system of Railways will be smart, transparent, multilingual and passenger-centric. This will reduce the time taken in ticket booking and the problem of website or app crashing will be eliminated.
The new system is being developed by Center for Railway Information Systems (CRIS). This new system has been called Modern Passenger Reservation System. It is being told that this system will be implemented from next year.
Reservation system in Railways was implemented in 1995. Compared to present times, technology at that time was not as developed but now technology has become much better. In such a situation, the need for a new system was felt. Under the old system, only 25,000 tickets could be booked in a minute. In such a situation, technical problems arise when the number is more than 25,000. Increasing this number to 1.25 lakh will solve technical problems. Officials say that the system has been developed in such a way that it can be expanded to more than 1.25 lakh.
Sources said that the current passenger reservation system is based on Itanium Server and Open VMS. It is technically outdated. This framework will now be converted into a modern cloud-based system. This change will make the digital infrastructure of Railways future ready.
Tatkal ticket takers will get more relief
The biggest benefit of the new system will be available to the passengers in Tatkal ticket booking. With the modern passenger reservation system, the website speed will be 5 times faster, the server load will be balanced, the login will be verified from Aadhaar and with the ability to book 1.25 lakh tickets in a minute, the chances of passengers booking Tatkal tickets to get confirmed tickets will be many times higher than before. At present, the website used to become slow as soon as the ticket is opened, many types of technical problems arise including payment getting stuck.
There will be less load on the server
The capability to check PNR and seat availability is also being enhanced manifold in the new cloud-based ticketing system. While at present an average of four lakh inquiries can be made in a minute, in the new system this number will reach 40 lakh per minute. With this, passengers will be able to get information related to seat status, train timing and fare immediately on the website or app without any delay. The load on the server will be reduced and the problem of system hanging will almost be eliminated.
