A similar case has come to light in Gurugram in which the police have arrested two Airtel employees. Accusations against (via) that they used to provide virtual phone numbers to fraudsters associated with Indonesia and China. After that these thugs used to trap the local youth. This swindler used to lure youth by luring them with fake jobs. They were implicated in task based fraud investments.
According to Piyush Dhawan, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Cybercrime in Gurugram, a man named Neeraj Walia and Hemant have been arrested in a joint operation by the cybercrime team. Police have registered a case against the accused under sections 318(4), 319 and 61(2) of BNS.
Actually, the police received a call from a local of Gurugram in which he complained that he was tricked into giving a part-time job through a landline number. The caller offered the receiver a part-time job in which he had to give reviews of hotels. On completing the task he got Rs 200. Initially some amount was deposited in the victim’s account. But later he was asked to invest with a larger amount.
Falling for the trap, the victim transferred even more money to the swindlers’ account. But he never received the increased money in return as he was promised. During interrogation, the police came to know that Neeraj worked as a site verifier for Airtel and Hemant was his team leader. He issued the landline number used in the scam in the name of Ekamdarsh ​​Services Private Limited, a company which was not registered at the given address. Using this number, fraudsters targeted people to dupe them on the pretext of investment schemes by offering fake jobs.
