Police grabbed a journalist’s collar at Islamabad Press Club.
On Thursday, the police raided the Press Club of Islamabad in Pakistan and attacked journalists and people protesting there. The demonstration was taking place against atrocities and internet blackouts in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK).
After this incident, resentment was expressed throughout Pakistan. Home Minister Mohsin Naqvi has ordered an inquiry into the incident. Many videos related to this incident are viral in which police are running sticks on journalists.

Police said- journalists were beaten by mistake
Meanwhile, the police say they accidentally targeted journalists. According to reports, this happened when the police arrived to end the protests outside the press club over the status of POK.
During this time a clash between the protesters and the police started. Some protesters escaped and entered the press club. The police went inside the press club chasing them. Inside the police started lathicharge and when reporters tried to record with mobiles and cameras, they were also beaten.
At least two photographers and three employees of the Press Club were injured. Several journalists cameras and mobiles were broken.
Minister of State for Home apologizes to reporters
The video of the police attack spread widespread outrage after the video surfaced on social media. Senior journalists called it a direct attack on the freedom of the press. The Home Minister ordered an inquiry into the incident. Naqvi also said that violence on journalists will not be tolerated under any circumstances and disciplinary action will be taken against the policemen involved in it.
Minister of State for Home Talal Chaudhary reached the Press Club and apologized to reporters. Chaudhary said that some protesters had misbehaved with the police and the police went inside the club to catch them, but there was a clash with reporters.
He told reporters, “Your voices only bring us to the public, we are supporters of freedom to speak.”
Chaudhary assured that the government would conduct an inquiry and the responsibilities would be punished.
Protest against subsidy cut in POK
Demonstrations are taking place in Pakistan -occupied Kashmir (POK) against the subsidy cut on basic needs.
These demonstrations are being held on the appeal of Jammu and Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JKJAAC). The protesters are accusing the government of ignoring fundamental rights and not being able to control inflation.
People are marching towards Muzaffarabad, the capital of Pok today. They have placed 38 demands in front of the government, including the demand to abolish 12 reserve seats in the POK assembly.

Protesters held 25 Pakistani soldiers hostage
The protesters took 25 soldiers of security forces hostage on Wednesday. They were using them like a human shield. Due to this, the security forces were not able to take any direct action.
The protesters alleged that intelligence agencies were conducting secret attacks to break the movement. Unknown people in plain clothes target leaders and spread chaos in the crowd.
