PM Modi will inaugurate the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Conference in Bhubaneswar today. He will speak on the growing importance of India’s global engagement and the role of the diaspora in shaping the country’s future. Meanwhile, on January 10, President Draupadi Murmu will preside over the concluding session of the programme. A large number of Indian expatriates from more than 50 countries have registered to attend the conference.

PM will flag off Pravasi Bharatiya Express

Along with this, during the one-day visit, Modi will flag off the Pravasi Bharatiya Express. It is a special tourist train for expatriate Indians, which will depart from Nizamuddin, Delhi and visit several sites of tourist and religious importance for a period of three weeks.

3,000 NRIs from 70 countries will participate

3,000 Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) from more than 70 countries are participating in the program, who will discuss their contribution to India’s economic, cultural and tourism development. This will also include the vision of developed India. President of Trinidad and Tobago Christine Carla Kangaloo is the chief guest of the conference. She will address the conference virtually.

President Draupadi Murmu will present Pravasi Bharatiya Award in the closing session

President Draupadi Murmu will present the Pravasi Bharatiya Awards at the concluding session of the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) conference. These award winners include those who have brought laurels to the Indian diaspora with their unique contributions in various fields. This year, 27 personalities have been selected for the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman. These celebrities selected for this highest honor given to Indians living abroad live in 23 countries. He has made significant contributions in education, health and many other fields including business.

The award committee had recommended the names

Some of these prominent names include Baroness Usha Kumari Parashar from Britain (in politics), Dr. Sharmila Ford from America (in community service). Apart from this, this honor will also be given to some institutions. The names for the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award (2025) were recommended by the Jury-cum-Award Committee. This award is given to Indians living abroad for their outstanding work.
