How is the vermilion celebrated?
During the vermilion, Bengali women put vermilion in the foreheads and feet of the goddess adorned with beautiful traditional saris and jewelery. After that she applies vermilion to each other. After this, devotees take paan leaf in their palms and apply it to the goddess’s face. After this, the goddess is bid farewell. This custom shows wipes from the mother’s face.
It is believed that in Navratri, the mother comes to her house and leaves the maternal in -laws on Dashami date and goes back to her in -laws. First of all, vermilion is applied on their forehead and then bangles (branch and pola) are worn and sweets are offered.
