Big action of WhatsApp, more than 98 lakh accounts banned in India

WhatsApp has once again banned accounts of 98 lakh Indian users, taking big action. Meta has announced this in its June Compliance Report. The instant messaging platform has taken this action due to the reasons for misuse and spreading rumors on these WhatsApp accounts. Earlier too, WhatsApp had banned millions of users’ accounts in India.

Request of more than 16 ban

WhatsApp received more than 16 thousand requests to ban the account in June. In the month of June, the company took action on these accounts and banned 16,069 accounts from the platform. Out of the banned accounts, 19.79 lakh such accounts have been banned, which users have reported. Meta has taken action on WhatsApp accounts under the guidelines of Digital Media Ethics Code, 2021.

According to the Compliance Report, WhatsApp received 23,596 requests in the month of June. Out of this, the company has taken action on 1,001 accounts. WhatsApp has taken action on 756 accounts with ban request. All other complaints were of account assistance, product related query and safety queries etc.

Does work on three stage systems

Whatsapp said that the company already detects all kinds of objectionable activity and content on its platform. The company has created an abuse detection system for this, which works on three main stage. It has an account setup, messaging and reaction or negative feedback.

All social media platforms, including META, who have 50 thousand or more active users have to release a monthly compliance report every month. In this report, companies have to release the detailed report of the request from the action taken on the account of users. If the social media company takes any action in an intensity on a user’s account, then they can go to the Appellate Committee. However, it is rare that a user’s account was deliberately banned by the social media platform.
