The interim government of Bangladesh has canceled the program of 50 judges to come to India for training. Economic Times has given this information today quoting the spokesperson of Bangladeshi Law Ministry. All these judges and judicial officers were to come to India for training from February 10.

An agreement regarding the training of judges was reached in 2017 when Sheikh Hasina was the Prime Minister.

According to news outlet Daily Star, the Yunus government canceled this program after the order of Bangladeshi Supreme Court. A day earlier, Bangladesh Sangbad Sanstha had issued a report on behalf of the Yunus government saying that 50 lower court judges will participate in a one-day training at the National Judicial Academy and State Judicial Academy in Madhya Pradesh.

The entire cost of the training program was to be borne by the Government of India. The trainee judges selected under the program were District and Sessions Judges or its equivalent officers, Additional District and Sessions Judges, Joint District Judges, Senior Assistant Judges and Assistant Judges.

Sheikh Hasina had signed an agreement in 2017

Sheikh Hasina visited India in 2017 when she was Prime Minister. During this period both the countries had signed 22 agreements. These also included training and capacity development programs for officers of the Judiciary of Bangladesh. There was also an agreement regarding this between the National Judicial Academy of India and the Supreme Court of Bangladesh.

Sheikh Hasina had signed an agreement regarding the training of judges during her visit to India in 2017.

Business continues despite tension

Trade continues amidst increasing tension in the countries. Bangladesh has decided to buy 2 lakh tonnes of rice from India. Whose first consignment of 27 thousand tonnes of rice reached Chittagong, Bangladesh on 27 December.

Apart from 2 lakh tonnes of boiled rice, the interim government of Bangladesh will also import 1 lakh tonnes of rice from India through tender.

Attacks on Hindus are increasing continuously in Bangladesh

Anti-India sentiments have strengthened in Bangladesh after the fall of Sheikh Hasina government on 5 August 2024. Bangladesh government has demanded to deport Sheikh Hasina from India.

Apart from this, religious places associated with minorities are being continuously targeted. Hindu leaders are receiving threats. ISKCON-affiliated religious leader Chinmoy Krishna Das has been in police custody since November 25 on charges of treason.
