Weather Forecast: The wrath of winter is at its peak in Delhi-NCR. Due to cold wave, people have been forced to remain confined to their homes. On Thursday (January 9) morning, the minimum temperature in the capital was recorded at 6.4 degrees Celsius. On Friday (January 10), the temperature dropped to about 5 degrees Celsius. Today the maximum temperature is expected to be around 21 degrees Celsius. Due to cold, many people are forced to take shelter in night shelters.
Cold and dense fog have disrupted normal life in Uttar Pradesh. Cold day has been declared in many districts. The effect of cold is strong in the capital Lucknow including Noida and Ghaziabad. The weather is likely to clear today, which may bring some relief to people. However, on January 11, a yellow alert has been issued regarding rain and dense fog. There is a possibility of further drop in temperature due to rain.
Cold wave with westerly winds in Bihar
Westerly winds have increased the cold in Bihar. According to Patna Meteorological Department, light rain has been recorded in the northern parts of the state, while dry weather has prevailed in other parts. There is a possibility of a slight increase in the minimum temperature in the next two days, but the outbreak of fog and cold wave will continue. There is a possibility of dense fog in the north-central and north-eastern districts of the state in the morning which may affect traffic.
Effect of Chilla-e-Kalan in Kashmir
Cold has created a new record in Kashmir Valley. At most places the temperature has gone several degrees below the freezing point. A drop in minimum temperature has been recorded in areas like Gulmarg and Pahalgam. The period of ‘Chilla-e-Kalan’ is going on in the valley, which is considered to be the coldest period of the year. The Meteorological Department has predicted light snowfall and further increase in cold in the coming days.
Heavy rain warning in Rajasthan
A slight reduction in the severity of cold has been recorded in Rajasthan, but the possibility of rain and hailstorm in the coming days has again raised concerns. Orange alert has been issued in six districts. According to the Meteorological Department, there may be heavy rain and hailstorm in areas like Jaipur, Churu, Sikar and Jhunjhunu on January 11. A slight increase in minimum temperature has been recorded at some places, but the effect of cold still persists.
Cold and fog in Punjab, Haryana
Cold is at its peak in Punjab and Haryana. The minimum temperature recorded in Moga was 2.3 degrees Celsius. The temperature in cities like Amritsar, Patiala and Ludhiana is also much below normal. The mercury has reached around 3 degrees in Sonipat and Karnal of Haryana. Due to cold wave and fog in Himachal Pradesh, yellow alert has been issued in five districts. The Meteorological Department has predicted rain on Saturday (January 11) and Sunday (January 12).
